Write what you know...

The final edit of The Lovers Arcana is almost done, and this year-long process of writing the book and getting it releasable is coming to an end. In the wake of this, I have turned to some of my other projects, and there are many partially written bits and bobs throughout my Google Docs. While trawling through them all, deciding where inspiration strikes to pick up an idea and continue it, there is no BOOM! So, instead I find myself looking at a blank page, and that is when it hit me: an idea, but also maybe some weird type of therapy? The last 12 months have been difficult, and the last three particularly tough in the relationship department, and an idea from that roller coaster ride hit me. I found myself typing, feeling better as I did. This wasn't a play-by-play of events but a take on a situation we have all experienced and know the pain of too well. Maybe this could be something? Maybe this will be another idea discarded in the Google Docs graveyard of my creative mind, but either way, I have always found that when I take inspiration from my own life, my writing is better, and I am more motivated to write. The old advice 'write what you know' is something I have always found true, so even if it is only a couple of pages, it doesn't matter write what you know or what you don't, just as long as you write.
